A New Year, A New Approach to Wellness: Reboot for a Year of Sustainable Wellness

Let’s talk about New Year’s resolutions. You know the ones—those promises to ourselves that we start with all the enthusiasm in the world, only to watch them fade away by February. But what if this year could be different? What if instead of chasing quick fixes, we build something lasting—a life we love, step by step?

That’s what the Journey to Joy program is all about. It’s a year-long adventure in creating healthy, sustainable habits that build on each other month after month. Think of it as a foundation for a lifetime of wellness, not just a fleeting resolution.

And it all starts with a gentle 3-day Reboot on January 6th. I’ll be doing it, and I’d love for you to join me!

Why Your Gut Health Is the Key to Wellness

Have you ever noticed how stress, poor sleep, lack of movement, and even what you eat can affect your mood? "You can't exercise yourself out of a bad diet and lifestyle choices," as the saying goes. That’s no coincidence. Science has shown that your gut microbiome (those trillions of bacteria in your digestive system) plays a huge role in how you handle stress, your energy levels, and even your sleep.

What the Research Says:

  • Stress and Circadian Rhythm: Studies show your gut bacteria help regulate your stress response and even your 24-hour sleep/wake cycle. Disrupted sleep, high stress, and poor diet can throw your microbiome out of balance, making everything feel harder.

  • Gut-Brain Axis: Your gut doesn’t just digest food—it communicates with your brain to regulate mood and stress. A healthy gut can mean a calmer mind.

This is why our January focus is on resetting and restoring. Starting with a 3-day Reboot, we’ll give our bodies a clean slate to build on for the rest of the year.

The 3-Day Reboot: What Is It?

The Reboot is a three-day detox and gut-brain axis reset program designed to:

  • Cleanse: Flush out toxins and rebalance your microbiome.

  • Reset: Promote natural detoxification of your colon, kidneys, and liver.

  • Restore: Reduce bloating, inflammation, and stress while improving energy, mood, and even helping you lose inches and pounds.

What You Can Eat:

  • Load Up On These: Veggies (like broccoli, carrots, and greens), fruits (berries, apples, bananas), legumes (chickpeas, lentils), healthy fats (avocados, nuts), and herbal teas.

  • Avoid These: Processed foods, sugar, dairy, animal products, soy, and grains.

There’s also a group where you can connect for community, ask questions, and find recipes, snack ideas, and even my favorite smoothie combos to make it easy and delicious. By the end of three days, you’ll feel lighter, refreshed, and ready to tackle the year ahead.

January’s Challenge: Laying the Foundation

This month, we’re focusing on three simple but powerful habits:

  1. Mindful Mornings: Start each day with 10 minutes of peace and quiet. Maybe it’s journaling, sipping tea, or just breathing—whatever helps you ground yourself before the day gets rolling.

  2. Move With Intention: For me, because of an injury, that means 10 minutes of chair exercises daily. For you, it could be a brisk walk or some stretching. The key is consistency. You can also ask me for my chair exercise plan or ideas to create your own start-up routine.

  3. Healthy Eating: After the Reboot, commit to eating at least five different fruits and vegetables daily to nourish your body and gut.

These habits might seem small, but they’re the building blocks of a healthier, happier you. Each month, we’ll add new focus areas. In February, since it’s the month of love, we’ll work on Self-Love by lowering stress, practicing relaxation, talking positively to ourselves, and learning what a digital detox is. March will focus on personal growth by adding three new habits: reading a book, connecting with nature for 15 minutes a day, and building on our movement goals. Together, these will help create a balanced lifestyle over time.
